TOP TEN FOODIE GRIPES

Posted by paleskinlover at 07:25 PM on February 14, 2007.

This is my top ten foodie gripes, i've been eating out since i was a grade school at a boy's school in Retiro, QC, yung malapit sa mga paresan hehe. Since a lot of lists tend to enumerate the best food establishments, I'll do the opposite. But I won't just say bad things here, like the food and service sucks at this burger joint and so so, everything I'll put on this list must make sense, it will all be in a constructive criticism. No pointless gripes here. Without further ado and further rambling, here it is:

10. Mister Kebab - Taking a considerable time to process the bill. Come on, how hard is it to process your bill in a food joint? I've been eating in joints as busy as Mister Kebab but it don't seem to take them that long to give our bill and change. What gives? I'm sure the cashiers are using digital calculators... uumm... right? I think they should stream line that part of their operation, my friends and I avoid Mr Kebab when we are in a hurry just because of that.

9. Jollibee - I already got fed up with Jolibee so its been years that I haven't ordered their Champ burger, is it still on the menu??? Years ago, I tried ordering Champ or Junior Champ. Either they told me it's not available or I have to wait for about 15-20 mins. Jolibee is a fast food joint, not a restaurant. They are expected to serve what is on their menu at a reasonable amount of time. In this case, waiting for 10 minutes or longer for your order in any fastfood joint is an unpleasant experience. I'm not a nitpicker, but if I want to eat food in a hurry, I won't go to Shakey's or Super Bowl. I'll go to a FASTfood joint. I hope they just omit items in their menu which they can't really serve as a fastfood item... Wait a minute,,, why just order other items that will not take 15 mins to prepare?.... What's the purpose of displaying a menu in the first place? They could just have dotted their menu w regular yum, spag and chickenjoy... All right, I'm talking to myself... haha :-)

Pan fried Ostrich and Lambchops

Posted by paleskinlover at 04:57 PM on May 5, 2006.

One sign that I'm spending too much time alone when I can afford to have steak for lunch hehe :-) Ostrich and Lamb chops (I call it lamb steak haha). I buy the meat usually at Shopwise in Cubao because it's convenient for me. I rarely buy beef chops because beef steaks are the norm here. I like "exotic" meats hehe.

Recently discovered ostrich meat. They are not imported. The company that sells ostrich meat has a farm here. They are filipinos, I believe. Here's their site: ostrich.com.ph According to their site, they also have crocodile meat... hmmm.. interesting.

So here's my fave recipe for pan fried steaks (I'm too lazy to char-grill them haha), I just made it up after reading a real recipe ehehe.

ingredients:
For meat good for two
rosemary spice
italian spice
cinammon
oregano
salt
black pepper corns whole
paprika
garlic

sauce:
worctershire sauce
curry powder
ketchup or tomato puree
sugar

First rub all spices on meat except curry, easy on the salt, lots of garlic and rosemary. Ground, crack or pound black pepper first before rubbing, release the flavvaaah. Just a pinch of cinammon. Your rug marinade should cover the whole chop. Don't scrimp on spices guys and gals :-) Set it aside for an hour to 3 hours. Lessen the amount of rub marinade if you are planning to set it aside for overnight.

When you are ready, fire up a skillet on high heat and pour olive oil or ordinary cooking oil enough for pan fying. Wait for oil to really heat up, then fry the chops 3-4 min per side depending on the thickness. If you want the steak well done, which I prefer. After searing, turn down the heat to medium and fry away till juices cum out. Slice or poke the meat with a a knife or fork to test if the meat inside is cooked according to your preference. Please please don't ruin your steak by overcooking.

Prepare the sauce by mixing a cup of ketchup with about 3 tablespoons of worctershire and a pinch of curry. If ur using tomato puree, add sugar.

This is the lazy man's steak recipe. I don't know if you guys will find it delicious, but this is my fave recipe out of the several I tried. :p

Comfortly Numb

Posted by paleskinlover at 06:23 PM on January 17, 2006.

"I have become comfortably numb." - Gilmour Waters (Pink Floyd)

After a very long time of sharing my pc w a brother, he finally managed to afford to buy himself his own pc, now i don't have to wait for my turn to use my own computer hahah. And i'm now comfortable gere in my room because my brother's room is hot, we don't use the aircon unless it's reeally really reaaaallly hot hahaha. And so...

And so my affair with writing has been rekindled. I'm not that good, but i have many ideas for stories. Based from personal experiences and based from poems and songs that i wrote. I barely have gotten used to having the computer all by myself (was that wrong grammar? hahaha). I set up Kobe (The name of my pc, which i got from my dog who already lives in doggie heaven) beside the tv. Placed the console keyboard near the middle of the room so that when i watch tv or use the pc, i'm always right in the center of my room. I don't have money yet for a good set of speakers so I dusted our old component from the 80's...

Last saturday I happened to visit a cute mall named Circle C in Congressional ave near Mindanao or Visayas ave QC. I did some errands. After that I was hoping for a snack of shawarma or cake. But just I was heading for a shawarma stall i passed by this food cart which had a menu posted that read "chicken curry, tikka..." And there was a sticker which read "spicy hot". The cart happened to be an Indian snack outlet. Hmmm. P10 per wacchamacalit I forgot the name hehe, it's like chinese fried siomai. But the filling is beef curry. Wow! hehe. And I also had a chicken tikka which had chicken curry(very spicy yum) and sour cream and "alo" or potatoes. Ummm i think alo is the word for potato in India. I'm almost sure, I really can't recall right now. I ordered it for take out (or togo! whichever u prefer haha) So i had one of the best food trips inside my room that night. I slept late so I have tome to digest the food before I sleep. Good thing I have a handy game in my pc hehe ;-)

So tonight I am having a mini sound trip marathon featuring Pink Floyd. I'm in a nostalgic mood. I'll enjoy the rest of the night surfing the net and eating donuts because I am comfortably numb...

Attack of the Killer WINGS!

Posted by paleskinlover at 07:01 PM on July 27, 2005.

How many of you out here who likes to eat white meat? No no no, I mean poultry, as in c-h-i-c-k-e-n not the other meat hehehe ;-) Chances are you also like Kentucky Fried Chicken. So, ever experienced ordering a chicken meal and the girl behind the counter half heartedly apologise to you because all they had was chicken wings? I see many guys turn around and go to a nearby Jolibee or Mcdo to satisfy their chicken craving. I just order a sandwich whenever that happens. Grrr. Yeah, nothing like eating a real piece of chick en ;-) You know, tearing it apart with your hungry mouth and savoring it's delicious crispy skin. Yum! Then afterwards reciting one of the best slogans on earth: "Finger Lickin Good!" Yeah!

Today, I accidentaly found out why wings rule the kfc stores. Specially before closing time. We had this customer today, a delivery guy from Kentuck Fried. During a lull from the ahem... busy state in our work place hahaha. One of my coworker managed to corner this fellow and interogates him.

My coworker: "May tanong ako, ano ginagawa ninyo dun sa mga tsiken na natitira tuwing gabi? Nilalagay nyo sa ref para benta kinabukasan o pinamimigay sa mga mahihirap?" (Wow simple question but has a lot of substance to it, applause to my cow! - paleskinL)

Deliver Guy: Briefly hesitates "Aaaaaa... binibili namin. Mga crew sa Kfc. P15 isa."

Eyes POPPED!!! WOAH! Imagine that P15 per piece of that yumilicious piece of ass... i mean chicken? Wow that's heaven to me. SO that's why they only cook wings before closing time because apparently wings are cheaper than a leg or ummm a breast ;-) The fat guys in the KFC corporate echelon can take those kinds of losses. A 15 peso is a 15 peso, you can't count up to a million peso without starting on one peso. My fave part is the breast because it's the meatiest and the ummm easiest part to eat ;-)

Damn... if only I knew someone who works in a chicken joint. Well son't get your hopes too high because KFC crew are the priority here if ever there's an overstock. Regular people like us has a slim chance to participate in that chicken orgy, hahaha.
